MEAT FOR THE SOUL

i have been reading/studying through one of the most incredible reads with a friend, weekly. it's been beneficial in countless ways, but guys. the author of this book has a God-given talent with words. much has been learned in the 14 chapters covered, and i'm all too excited and sad, simultaneously, to finish the last three.
this past week's chapter dove into the mercy of God; so much richness splattered across seven pages, i could've camped out there for weeks.

"It is not the wretchedness of the creature which causes him to show mercy, for God is not influenced by things outside of himself as we are. If God were influenced by the abject misery of leprous sinners, he would cleanse and save all of them. But he does not. Why? Simply because it is not his pleasure and purpose so to do." Arthur W. Pink, The Attributes of God

which makes me cross-reference...

"So then He has mercy on whomever He wills, and He hardens whomever He wills." Romans 9:18 (ESV)

hard to swallow, yet such a comfort. my heart should beat with gratitude to my God, Who softened my heart to the Truth of the Gospel, rather than hardening it.

together, let's chew on this amazing grace.
