AFRICA PT. III

it was our first sunday in Africa and the matatus arrived just in time to take us to church. after trudging through muddy "roads" like a boss (thanks Charles!), we made it to the church in Narok/Nomuncha.

Pastor Simon and Pastor Solomon were so excited to see familiar and new faces alike, and, because we intentionally got there early, they were able to show us around the property and tell of how God has grown the church. in the beginning, worship started out under a tree for these people. as the congregation began to grow, these faithful Kenyan's built a mud hut to gather, and now have an even bigger building where they hold services. 

experiencing their worship was so eye-opening. the same God we worship back in the States inside sheet-rocked walls is the exact same God that Kenyan's worship under trees and in mud huts. raw, that's how i would describe that time of worship. 

during the entire time of church the team and i were loving on some kiddos hard core. and photographing them...

as a team, we were able to present this church with a donated solar generator and solar lights. the crowd was amazed, thankful, and excited to have another resource to grow their church. these pictures are a good glimpse of the power of generosity and what it can do for the underprivileged, and what we take for granted everyday. 

Pastor Simon and his wife, Eunice, hosted us for lunch after church, which was just a short walk away. they served a common Kenyan meal: potatoes, cabbage, chapati, and chai. of course, the women got in on the action too - selling colorful handmade items! it was a really sweet time of fellowship as we were surrounded by loose chickens and goats...also common in Kenya ;)

the people of the Nomuncha church really encouraged and reminded me that it's best to worship in your own way -- it might be stillness and meditation, or it might be dancing around and crying out to God. whatever it be, let it be raw adoration of Christ; that's what they told me without telling me.
