the duerstocks. 7.6.13

sssiiiigghhh. it's tough going through all of my summer memories because they were just so rich, so fun, so...deeshbah (note: you will not find this word in the dictionary). this post, probably being the toughest yet most valued, is that of my sister's wedding.
i arrived home on june 30 to a house, full of my family and their significant others, whom i love. it was such a monumental welcome home because everyone had been away from each other the entire summer, basically. so, starting that evening when i came home, was the ultimate party week. each day overflowed with last minute wedding tasks -- embellishing mason jars, steaming dresses, decorating the venue -- all to make for the perfect night for hayley and matt. with the usual possibility of summer showers, it threw a little difficulty into the equation. the question of the week being, Inside or outside? in the end, our best shot was moving the ceremony indoors to avoid rain, bugs, heat, and frizzy hair from the high humidity percentage. with those cons in mind, it made the decision to move both the ceremony and reception inside much easier. of course it altered what hayley had conjured up in her mind for the big day, but the goal was for two to become when day turned into night, and nothing could stop that. you guys! the wedding was absolutely perfect in every way, shape, and form; especially when knowing matt and hayles personally. there was family reunions, belly laughs, rich cakes, toasts for the happy couple, casual dancing, and smiles galore. entwined all throughout the wedding was the magnification of Christs' name. honestly, i think that is why and how the night was so beautiful, so peaceful, so perfect. because anything with God involved is just the way it should be; and folks, it was evident to every family member and friend there. if nothing else, i think that is a successful wedding alone. and as i sit here at my favorite coffee shop, drinking my regular cup of joe, i can't help but pray that that is what my wedding accomplishes. who cares if the ceremony is moved inside due to rain; or, tiny details are never completed; at the end of the night, if God is glorified and two are married that is all i long for.
i tend to get excited about having that happen in weddings, and matt and hayley sure did represent Christ well. they are so in love and i know, with confidence, that is because their most vital commonality is Christ. they are tied together by a three-strand rope of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. it is beautiful to witness those two flourish together because God is in the center of everything. along with the wedding came the most lively excitement and the most dreaded move to california. we didn't like the thought that they would no longer be so close to us anymore; yet, we were thrilled that they would be serving Christ and extending the Kingdom in san francisco with the san francisco city impact ministry (look it up!). i am honored to call hayley my sister and matt my brother-in-law. praise the Lord for their hearts geared toward missions!
all in all, the week was a blast and the wedding night was even blast...ier. i had so much fun capturing snippets of the week prior to the wedding, but failed at doing so the night of; i chose to be in the memories, instead of capturing them (there was a professional photographer so it worked out well). however, i snapped a few with my iphone when i had the chance! cheers to the coolest, kindest, and Christ-pursuing newlyweds ever. i love you two.
