Well my lovely readers, I'm at a loss of what to blog about today, feeling slightly overwhelmed by the fact that there is way too many things I could talk about. So I guess I'll just pick up the slack where I left off yesterday!
All you local Fairhopians know what happened last night - one of the most popular community events...the Lighting of the Trees of course! And to all of you who live here and there, that doesn't mean we all gather around and light trees on fire (obviously), it's the turning on of 7,000 strings of lights that cover trees lining the streets of downtown! It's not just that though, before the switch is turned on you have the choir that sings carols, hoping to get the spirits of the people excited for the upcoming Christmas season, elves walking around handing out fliers, people of all ages bundled up to avoid the cold air sipping hot chocolate, and let's not forget Mrs. Clause collecting letters from the kiddos to "personally give to Santa." If I do say so myself, Fairhope felt quite magical last night as all of the streets were blocked off so hundreds could stand in them, counting down for the lights to come on. And when they did? Oh it was a sparkly town! Of course they then had to cue the fake snow machines that were hung onto the street lights. What can I say, it's Alabama people. After, my friends and I took in the shiny, this-means-it's-almost-Christmas-time lights, we hopped in cars and sped (or was it just me?) to the school for our first home basketball game! Which was just the cherry on top of an awesome night. The bleachers were full, the cheerleaders were cheerful, and the guys played hard. It was a semi close game I guess you could say, but our guys pulled it out 57-46. Yyyyyeah, go Saints! Anyways, last night was definitely a good start to the holiday season and I can't say how happy I am that I got to spend it with the bestest (yes, I know that's not a real word) friends. Here's a few iPhone shots I took last night when I found time, cheers and happy Friday!
